PPE FAQ’s from HD

The latest message from H-D is about “PPE FAQ’s” and was sent out via the Assurance messaging system on May 18, 2020 at 4:45pm.

To keep employees informed about important return to the workplace details, this message provides information on the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) and FAQs on the PPE requirements.

PPE will be distributed to employees starting 30 minutes prior to the start of shift when you return to the workplace.  Please plan to pick up your PPE prior to the start of your shift.  We ask that you do not arrive more than 30 minutes prior to the start of your shift to reduce congestion at PPE distribution and in the factory.

You must have a face covering on prior to entering the facility. You must also have your safety shoes, glasses and badge.

Visit the York Site page of VIEW (https://hdview.harley-davidson.com/publish/content/view/en/pages/resourcesservices/meetingtravelservices/corona-virus-information/york-return-to-workplace.html) for FAQs to support questions concerning PPE.

You may also email Yrk-Communications@Harley-Davidson.com with any questions not covered in the FAQs.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – FAQs (5/18/20)

Q: What PPE will be provided for me?

A: Each hourly, salaried, contingent and casual employee will receive a bag with one faceshield, two reusable masks, a bandana and a stylus pen on a keychain.

Q: Why am I getting a stylus pen with my PPE?

A: We are asking that you use the stylus when clocking in/out and other high-touch points such as microwaves, vending machines and PODS. You will need to bring this to work with you every day.

Q: Can I bring my own mask/bandana/balaclava?

A: Yes, as long as it covers your nose and mouth per CDC guidelines.

Q: What if I forget to bring my PPE (mask/shield) to work?

A: If you forget to bring your mask or faceshield, you will be told to go home and retrieve it. You will not be allowed to enter the facility without PPE.

Q: What is the requirement for wearing a face mask/shield/bandana/balaclava?

A: Your face covering must be worn at all times while in the facility. The only time it can be removed is if you are eating or drinking in a designated break/lunch area.

Q: What if an employee refuses to wear a mask?

A: Masks are a required PPE and subject to the same rules and processes as other required PPE.

Q: What if an employee loses their mask or it breaks during the workday? Can they obtain another one?

A: There will be replacements face coverings available in the Tool Crib.

Q: If I go for a walk outside during lunch, am I allowed to remove my mask?

A: Masks are required PPE while on company property (to include parking areas).

Q: Will there be anti-fog spray or wipes available for employees to clean their shields/masks?

A: No. You will be responsible for cleaning your face shield and washing your face mask at home.

Q: How should I clean my face mask?

A: Cloth masks should be washed after every use (do not place in the dryer). Face shields can be cleaned on their break or at home with a sanitized wipe.

Q: If an employee is wearing a face shield, are they still required to wear safety glasses?

A: Yes. The requirements for safety glasses does not differ from our normal guidelines even if wearing a face shield.

Q: If an employee breaks their stylus, can they get a replacement?

A: Yes. Replacement stylus pens will be available in the Tool Crib.

Q: Can we remove our masks while at our desk?

A: Masks must be worn at all times with the exception of eating and drinking.

The following protocol must be followed with respect to the use and reuse of facemasks:

  • Before applying your mask, clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap and water.
  • The mask should fit snugly against the side of the face and around the mouth and nose.
  • If the mask has a metal wire, it should be fitted snugly to the bridge of the nose.
  • Avoid touching the mask while using it (if you do, wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer).
  • Change out the mask if it becomes saturated.
  • To remove the mask, remove it from behind – do not touch the front of the mask, and do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth while removing the mask.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer after you completely remove the mask from your face.
  • Masks must be cleaned (reusable) or discarded (disposable) after each use. The mask can be cleaned by placing the mask in the washing machine.
